SOUTH RIVER BREWING CO. OVERNIGHT

SOUTH RIVER BREWING CO. OVERNIGHT

South River Brewing Co. is located in the town of South River in the Almaguin Highlands. Their beer is brewed from pure local free-flowing waters, with barley cracked onsite to ensure freshness. Careful attention to quality paired with the finest ingredients gives all of their offerings a distinctive taste and smooth finish. Their new facility includes a retail outlet and an event space that features events and live music. South River Brewing Co. also offers two brew experiences where you have the chance to participate in the process first hand.

South River is the gateway to Algonquin Provincial Park’s western access. Tom Thomson himself paddled the South River to travel into Algonquin for sketching and fishing, and the town has a park named in his honour. Put in at Tom Thomson park and paddle the river for yourself. Swift Canoe and Kayak’s factory is located in South River, and you can rent you canoes, kayaks or stand-up paddle boards from their retail outlet. Brenda Scott of the Algonquin Guesthouse offers Thomson related hikes and workshops where you can create your own artwork.

The Forgotten Trails Association maintains many multiple use trails in the area which are excellent for hiking and cycling in the summer and snowshoeing and skiing in the winter. High Rock Lookout Park offers spectacular views over Lake Bernard, the largest freshwater lake in the world without an island. Be sure to visit the Screaming Heads in nearby Ryerson Township. This unique outdoor art installation, featuring towering concrete heads and horses along with a castle and a dragon, is not to be missed.
